PARTICIPATION IN SPORT ACTIVITIES IS VERY LOW IN UI- IBK NATION
Mr. Oyewo Oluseye, ak.a. IBK Nation, of the Productivity Agenda has stated that due to the low participation of uites in sporting activities, he plans to create a database containing the preferred sport activity of every uite in order to monitor their interest and progress in the sport of their choice.
IBK Nation, vying for the position of Sports Secretary of the Student Union in the upcoming 2017 UISU elections, stated that his aim is to promote mentally, physically, socially, financially and physically fit sporting activities.
He also stated that he plans to improve the welfare of athletes.
I PLAN TO STOP DISCRIMINATION IN UI SPORT- JBOY
Mr. Eleanor Joseph, a.k.a. JBoy, has stated, among his plans for the Students’ Union that he plans to stop discrimination in sporting activities in UI to promote more participation of female students in UI.
This, he stated at the 2017 SU Press Night that was held on Thursday, 27th April, 2017 at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan at 6.30pm.
JBoy is a 400level student of the Faculty of Pharmarcy vying for the position of Sports Secretary in the upcoming 2017 SU Election scheduled to hold on Saturday, 29th April, 2017, even though he was not victorious in the 2016 SU Election for the same position.
Upon further questioning on this matter, he identified sporting activities in UI where discrimination is found to include footb7all and sprint. He also stated that he plans to create awareness among freshers about sporting activities in UI using the Diamond FM of the University of Ibadan.
I SHALL ENSURE PROPER MAINTENANCE OF THE UNION BLOG- USMAN (PRO)
Mr. Olasunkanmi Usman, contesting for the office of Public Relations Officer (PRO), has stated among his plans to ensure prompt and proper dissemination of informatiuon and proper maintenance of the union blog.
He said, “this is a union that will give voice to the voiceless. It will be talk your own and make our union better.”
Also, he mentioned that he plans to organise symposium to discuss important issues in the union and ensure an “uninterrupted academic session”.
When asked whether his plan to ensure an “uninterrupted academic session” implies that the academic session will be free from strike actions and riots by ASUU, NASU or students, he responded that it is not necessary to always resort to riots. He mentioned to embrace negotiation.
BABARINDE ADEBAYO (PRO)
Mr. Bababarinde Adebayo of the Innovation agenda included in his statement of plans to ensure press release on issues of social, economic and political interests, whether local or national.
He mentioned that this would be motivated toward ensuring consolidation. He also mentioned it in his plan to resuscitate the student union website, which he gave as http://www.uisu.org.ng
When asked about the particular press board which he intends to use for publication of press releases, he said it will be the student union press board, located within the student union building.
OGBONA JACKSON (TREASURER)
Mr. Ogbona Jackson, a 300 level student of Economics running for the office of Treasurer has mentioned in his plans to take accountability to the next level.
“I believe the issue which we have is that we don’t use the right tools for the right work. That’s why we still have problems with accountability”, he said.
He included in his manifesto to deal with the problems ATMs in the university community have been faced with, even though he asserted that he has never promised that the problem would be solved by him, what he has problem is to look into the problem.
ADEDAPO ADESIJI (TREASURER)
Mr. Adedapo Adesiji has itemized his key plans if he assumes office, using his nick name; ACUBE, A for Accountability, C for Creativity, U for Undisputable, B for Business-minded and E for Efficiency.
He also included it in his manifestoes to ensure the functioning of the three ATMs within the university and grants of sponsorship programme for the best students.
When asked for which purse the grant will be made, he answered that if elected, he will keep contacts with certain sponsors of the student union to fund the programme.
A pressman advised the candidate to include indigent students in his sponsorship programme and not restrict it only to the most diligent.
I WILL MAKE THE BEST OUT OF THE STUDENT UNION BUILDING – A.I.G
Mr. Adole Ogagbolo, popularly called A.I.G, a 300 level Chemistry student running for the post of House Secretary has stated in his plan to make the best out of the student union building by setting up business outfits.
His plans include the resuscitation of the union, which he explains he will do by encouraging the members to be ‘active and proactive’ and the general welfarism of the students, which he said would be done by paying attention to the physically challenged and indigent students.
THE HOUSE SECRETARY IS THE WELFARE MINISTER – ADEYINKA NIFEMI (REVIVAL)
Mr. Adeyinka Oluwanifemi, of the Revival agenda, a 400 level Civil Engineering student, has emphasized that the house secretary is the welfare minister at the union level and that consequently, he would ensure the revival of welfarism at the union.
His manifestoes also include social revival and academic revival, which he plans to realise by bringing JACKS again to freshers’ welcome programmes and making online materials available for students.
When asked how he would go about the digitalization of materials, he said that he plans to create an app that will make materials available to students at the comfort of their rooms.
He also included it in his plans to organise business seminars and orientation for students.
I HAVE BEEN ENDORSED BY GOD – OMOLUWA GODSENT
Mr. Omoluwa Godsent has said that he has been endorsed and sent by God, provoking a question posed by a pressman for the proof of his divine endorsement.
He responded everyone that has been called to serve in any public capacity for the benefit of majority of people, has been sent by God.
His plans however include the institution of student rental agency to procure off-campus housing services for students and lobbying with the school management to ensure prompt repair of basic appliances in the halls of residence.
ADETIMILEHIN TAIWO (AGS)
Mr. Adetimilehin Taiwo has stated in his manifestoes to agitate for improvement of learning conditions.
His plans also include the “Equip Yourself 17”, a programme which includes vocational training and human development programmes.
In his words, “we need tutors and trainers to train Uites” even though “every plan will be subject to SRC”.
UITES WILL MEET WITH THEIR EXECUTIVES PHYSICALLY – WAZA
Mr. Akande Samuel, popularly called WAZA, a 200 level student of Guidance and Counselling has said he will ensure that students, especially freshmen, will meet with their executives physically, if elected into office.
He stated that the UISU freshers’ welcome is too social and therefore plans to bring in freshers’ orientation programme to teach freshers on how to cope with exam anxieties and other issues.
THERE WILL BE A NEW SYSTEM OF DOCUMENTATION- MJ
Mr. Ogundeji Benjamin, a.k.a. MJ, has stated as part of his plans for the 2017 SU Regime, if elected, that he will introduce a new system of documentation as opposed to the cabinet system used by the current administration.
He said he intends to do so by ensuring duplication of every document in soft copies and making a copy available to the office of the AGS.
THERE WILL BE WASHING OF TANKS IN ALL HALLS OF RESIDENCE- OLAMIDE
Miss Akanni Olamide of the TEAM ASSURANCE has stated as part of her plans that she will head the welfare committee to organise washing of tanks of all halls of residence.
Miss Olamide is the only candidate vying for the position of Vice President in the upcoming 2017 SU elections scheduled to hold on 29th April, 2017.
She also plans to work with the treasurer to ensure accountability. In providing response to a question, why the office of the Vice President should not be scrapped and merged with that of the president, she said that everybody has their own responsibility as the President is the head and the Vice President is the neck.
UNDUE VICTIMIZATION OF STUDENTS WILL BE CHECKED – OJO ADEREMI
Mr. Ojo Aderemi, a 200 level student running for the office of the SU President has said that if elected into office, he will ensure that undue victimisation of students is checked.
He said he plans to ensure the defence of students and improvement in welfare conditions.
When asked what his reaction will be if he is not allowed to enter into a sitting of Students Disciplinary Committee, where an innocent student has been falsely found convicted of an offence, he cited an alleged provision of the University handbook that provides that students are entitled to enter such sittings and as such, any decision, made by the SDC when students are so disallowed will be null and void.
STUDENTS DO NOT TRUST THE UNION – COMRADE
Mr. Hamzat Ayodeji, of the Team Solidarity popularly called Comrade, has said that students do not trust the union, which is the root cause of apathy.
He plans to curb this unwelcomed political orientation by building a union that is active enough to be trusted.
In his manifesto, he promises to solidarise Uites through adequate solidarity visits to halls of residence and faculties and control of extortion.
He equally promises to help students get over victimisation.
ALL WE ARE HERE FOR IS TO HAVE A UNION THAT IS SOLID – VALENTINE
Mr. Valentine Igbonekwu, a 400 level Law student, running for the post of SU President, has said that the entire purpose of his Consolidation agenda is to ensure that there is a solid union.
He regards lack of information and “underusage” of social media as the key cause of the failure of Ojo Oluwanifemi’s administration.
In his manifesto, he plans to provide a conducive atmosphere for learning, set up a S.U. study centre between Awo and Idia halls and to institute a “Know Your Rights” programme, where uites will be informed about their rights.
I WILL CARRY OUT MY PLANS EFFICIENTLY TO GET PEOPLE ENGAGED IN POLITICS – OBJ
Mr. Ogeleyinbo Bodunrin Joseph, a 500 level student of Medicine, has stated in his plans to improve the welfare conditions of students, advocacy of students’ rights, grassroots representation and improvement of health conditions of students.
He further stated that he would improve the conditions in Jaja Clinic and enhance free medical check-ups.
He equally plans to lobby for rendition of Wi-Fi to students, with the payment of little amount of money by students.
When asked what the cause of apathy to the union is, he responded that it was due to the lack of trust in student leaders. He said he plans to engage students in unionism by carrying out his plans effectively.
