As against the policy of the University of Ibadan which has banned the use of hotplates in kitchenettes across the Halls of residence, the new president of the Students’ Union, Mr. Ojo Aderemi, has declared that from henceforth, Uites should make use of their hot plates in any kitchenette without fear.
Ojo declared this while giving his inaugural speech, during the handing-over ceremony, which officially marked the commencement of the Ojo-led administration, at Trenchard Hall on 8th May, 2017.
At the event which witnessed the presence of the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka; Professor Emilolorun Aiyilari; Professor A. T. P. Ajuwape; among other top members of the University, Ojo Aderemi said that the Union is ready to promote the welfare condition of her members by every legitimate means possible.
“As from today, ladies, use electric appliances in the kitchenettes. If anybody stops you, report to the Students’ Union.
“We will push for the welfare of students on campus through the welfare board, mind you, we will push for it ”, he declared.
The President added that the Union will stand against every form of exploitation and put a halt to victimization of students on campus. He mentioned that while nothing happened to members of NASU, who had placed a coffin at the main gate of the University, to depict the death of the Vice chancellor, he said that the SU will also not stand any form of injustice on any of her members.
“We will not close our eyes to injustice”, he said.
He added that the Union will cater for every student, including those with special needs, as his administration will be in the interest of all.
“We will incorporate our special persons into the scheme of things by signing the special persons’ bill”, he said.
