TAIWO ADEDOYIN EMERGES AS NEW LSS PRESIDENT

After two weeks of rigorous campaign and incessant propaganda, the Law Students Society of the University of Ibadan conducted its executive elections for the 2016/2017 session.

The election was conducted on Wednesday, 10th May, 2017 from 8.00am to 4.00 pm by the Law Students Society Electoral Committee.

The Presidential race consisted of three candidates: Mr. Busari Basit, Miss Akande Tofunmi and Miss Taiwo Adedoyin, all from the 400level class; while the Vice-presidential race consisted of three canddidates; Mr. Kareem Kayode, Miss Ezewanne Chidera and Mr. Okonkwo Samuel, all from the 300level class.

The office of the Social Secretary was contested for by two candidates: Miss Abiola Nihinlolawa and Miss Owopetu Faith.

The remaining offices; General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Sports Secretary and Public Relations Officer; were contested for unopposed by Miss Awoyemi Amazingrace, Mr. Aleem Abass, Miss Agbakwuru Victoria, Miss Chijioke Gift, Mr. Agboola Raphael and Mr. Akin-Olubode Adekeye respectively.

Eventually, Miss Taiwo Adedoyin of the “Redefinition Agenda” emerged as winner of the Presidential race with a total of 241 votes while Mr. Basit and Miss Tofunmi had 184 and 105 votes respectively.

When asked about how she felt concerning the result of the election and her victory at the poll, Miss Doyin said, “I feel jumpstarted right now… it is just God… I thank God Almighty”.

The Vice Presidential race was won by Mr. Kareem Kayode of the “Charis Agenda” with a total vote of 274 while Miss Chidera and Mr. Samuel emerged with 171 and 84 votes respectively.
Miss Nihinlolawa ousted Miss Faith for the office of the Social Secretary with a total of 292 votes over 212 votes.

The rest of the candidates who contested unopposed for the offices of General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Sports Secretary and Public Relations Officer emerged victorious by having more than two-third of the total votes cast.
